Hi everybody,
I'm a total salix/slackware newbie. I wanted to bring my old laptop (compaq n1020v) to life and I decided to install Salix Lxde, but when I installed it and rebooted the system I got in trouble. The screen of the laptop is broken, so it's connected to an external monitor: after booting Salix, just before the login screen, the external monitor goes into power saving mode.
I think the OS doesn't recognize it as a monitor, or maybe the screen can't stand the resolution, I don't know.
The only one thing I know is that this happens with every distro I try (except with Damn small linux).
What could it be? I read somewhere that in some cases like this you have to edit xorg.conf or something else, but when I use the Salix installation cd as a terminal and I write /etc/X11/xorg.conf it gives me a "not found" error!
What can I do? Please help me, this is quite urgent...

What type of monitor is it, older CRT or newer LCD? Have you tried booting with nomodeset? There's no xorg.conf anymore, custom settings go into the etc/X11/xorg.conf.d folder.
