Re: Salix Openbox 14.1
Thank you! As it happens, I have a vintage 13 year old Toshiba Libretto L3 which sports a Transmeta Crusoe TM5600 600MHz processor, which does not support PAE. The system has 384MB of RAM and an upgraded hard drive so it should be able to run SalixOS 14.1. I'll definitely give it a try. There aren't...

Re: Pending Updates Anomaly
I've seen a different anomaly on Salix64. I get the notification icon for updates and when I click on it and enter the root password it tells me that no updates are available. This has happened quite a lot.

Re: Salix Openbox 14.0beta2
Thanks for the update, gapan. I'm working on a review (my first Linux distro review in quite some time) and I wanted to make sure I'm getting everything right.

Re: Salix Openbox 14.0beta2
Is this 32-bit only or have I missed something, like a 64-bit link maybe? Also, it's been 2.5 months since this beta was released. Is development progressing or is everything on hold for a new Slackware beta cycle?

Re: Salix Xfce4 14 Great Job!!
I came to Salix 14.0 a bit late. Oh, I downloaded and installed it right away but because I was supporting SLES/SLED at work I ran openSUSE at home for the past six months or so. I'd have to say that this is another very good release. I'm really not seeing problems and some of the updated apps are v...

Re: fdisk instead of cfdisk
If the concern is partition alignment wouldn't parted be a better choice than fdisk? That would give you the flexibility needed and it's certainly more user friendly than fdisk.

Re: Downloaded and installed application not showing up anyw
It should be at /usr/bin/vlc See if you can run it from the command line. If that works it's just a matter of adding it to the menu.

Re: openSUSE 12.2 RC2
Of course I am sure Linux/UNIX consultants from Raleigh find it easy to build packages for the Redhat Package Manager. LOL. Yeah, this is Red Hat country for sure. I've built my share of Debian and Slackware packages too. :D I seriously doubt anyone who has experience building packages will have an...

Re: openSUSE 12.2 RC2
Building packages in openSUSE isn't any harder than in any other distro once you know how rpm works. I don't understand the comment about it being difficult at all.
