The Salix Live team is proud to announce the immediate release of Salix Live KDE 13.37. Following Salix Live Xfce 13.37, this release is available in both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures.
This release is also built using SaLT (Salix Live Technology), a new system of of Live tools for Slackware-based distributions, developed in-house, in order to build Live CDs in a more dynamic fashion with very little modifications from the host system. SaLT offers considerably more power when creating a Live system compared to other tools that were used previously and is the reason that it is now possible to produce 64-bit images to complement the collection of Salix Live images.
The software included in this release is exactly the same as that present in the standard Salix KDE 13.37 release. You will find Mozilla Firefox as the default webpage browser, along with KMail, KTorrent and several more internet applications. The full KOffice suite is included, with the main applications being KWord, KSpread and KPresenter. Bangarang, a powerful media player for KDE is included, along with Clementine, which is probably the best music organizer for Linux.
As with all Salix editions, the full set of graphical system tools is available, including the Gslapt package manager and the Sourcery SlackBuild manager.
Of course, a lot of Live System specific tools have been added; the Salix Live Installer is included, so youcan install Salix in any of the three modes, Full, Basic or Core, the Salix Live Persistence manager, so it is easy to save any changes you make during a live session and LiveClone, a graphical tool that makes it extremely easy for anyone to create new customized live images, with any additional software or settings.
Sadly, the KDE edition has grown in size and it can no longer fit in a single CD and you will now a DVD if you want to burn it to an optical medium. However, it is very easy to put Salix Live in a usb thumbdrive. Scripts to do exactly that in any *nix or Windows system are available inside the iso files and instructions on how to use them are available in the Salix wiki: http://www.salixos.org/wiki/index.php/H ... an_USB_key
Salix Live can also be booted through a network connection using PXE. You will find links for initrd files for PXE booting next to the iso images download links. Instructions on how to boot Salix Live this way can also be found in the Salix wiki: http://www.salixos.org/wiki/index.php/H ... _using_PXE
