Salix LXDE 13.1.2 has arrived!

Post by gapan »

One year after our first 64-bit release and as a holiday present for our users, we are proud to announce the release of Salix LXDE 13.1.2! This is a triple release and it includes a 32-bit installation image, a 64-bit installation image as well as a 32-bit Live CD. The most evident change in Salix LXDE 13.1.2 is that it is the first release in the LXDE series that comes with a 64-bit image, something that has often been requested by our users. So, users of 64-bit systems can now also enjoy the lightness and speed of LXDE, while using the full potential of their CPU.

Another important change since the previous LXDE release, is the inclusion of slapt-src, a new tool that makes the process of downloading and building software packages from slackbuilds.org simple and easy. Thousands of extra packages are now available through this new tool for our users.

Other changes in this release since the previous LXDE release, include:
* Obconf has been included by default in a full mode installation to make it easier to change the look and feel of the openbox window manager.
* LXRandr, the standard screen manager for LXDE, for managing screen resolutions and external monitors, has also been included in the default full mode installation.
* Volti has been included so that volume level for any channel can be adjusted from the system tray.
* All system administration tools are updated with translations for even more languages, including, but not limited to, french, german, greek, italian, dutch, spanish, japanese, ukranian, swedish and more! About dialogs including credits for all translators have been added to all system tools. A big thanks goes to all contributors, it wouldn't have been possible to provide that level of internationalization without all of you.
* The persistence tool has been updated in the live CD and persistence now works properly in all setups.
* Updated kernel packages to fix security issues.
* glibc has been upgraded, fixing multiple security issues.
* A few more smaller fixes and updates.

You can download any of the three iso images using the Sourceforge servers, or with a torrent client, using the following links:

Well right now I'm surfing with Salix Live LXDE and passed the first test: reproduce "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IDNqcASW ... re=related" (you must try it :twisted: ) since the first boot without any config. Awesome!

Also I tried listening to a mp3 with Exaile. I had to download the codecs, but works fine, reading the mp3 file since the ntfs partition without problem.

I'll test it on the notebook, because I want to know if it discover the wireless card and I want to test the persistance system and installation.

Great job!

Thanks a lot!

I think LXDE is the best DE after KDE3 was changed to KDE4, so using Salix with LXDE I can now continue to use Slackware!

Hello.
My first post here.
I'm about to test Salix but i'm wondering if it includes any of the desktop performance patchs (the 4 line or the 200 line ones) They really improve my desktop speed.
I see no mention on this forum. Is the patch included in the latest Salix?

@timatou,

you only need to keep up with package updates. If you want to install any new of the new packages that are listed in the announcement, you can do that too.

Thanks for the awnser.
I did it, but when I do, I can't update or upgrade any package, the source adresse seems to be incorrect.
There the changes that I did:
Before:

Code: Select all

SOURCE=http://salix.enialis.net/i486/slackware-13.1/:OFFICIAL
SOURCE=http://salix.enialis.net/i486/slackware-13.1/extra/:OFFICIAL
SOURCE=http://salix.enialis.net/i486/13.1/:PREFERRED
After:

Code: Select all

SOURCE=http://salix.enialis.net/i486/slackware-13.1.2/:OFFICIAL
SOURCE=http://salix.enialis.net/i486/slackware-13.1.2/extra/:OFFICIAL
SOURCE=http://salix.enialis.net/i486/13.1.2/:PREFERRED
What's wrong?
