Bad display LXDE 64 13.37

Postby Lonely » 11. May 2012, 20:10

Regarding Salix 64-LXDE 13.37 Both login display and desktop display unreadable not working. installed 2 times from 2 downloads on 2 cd's (cdrw) with same bad results onto a 64 bit AMD dual processor computer and tried 2 LCD monitors 19 inch displays. I will try LXDE 32 bit new 13.37 version next. The LXDE 13.1.2 previous release 32 bit worked in the past.

Are you sure you don't have a badly downloaded iso? Did you do an md5sum check on the downloaded file?

Thank you for your reply. I have same problem after installing 32 bit version of LXDE 13.37. I have installed 64 bit LXDE twice and 32 bit LXDE once from 3 cdrw copy verified ISO's from 3 downloads MD5 verified good downloads burned using latest imgburn under windows XP which has worked without errors on my previous distro ISO's including Salix LXDE 13.1.2 which worked nicely. Three MD5 verified downloads burned to three disks and verified successful burns giving exactly same messed up login display (unreadable font) and desktop display (no icons or menu or nothing except white bottom and blue lines) tells me not compatible with my 64 bit AMD dual processor computer having NVIDIA graphics tried on two 19 inch LCD monitors 60 Hz. Therefor, neither 64 bit nor 32 bit LXDE 13.37 versions work.

Sounds like you may need to install the proprietary NVIDIA driver, see this thread:

which contains a link to a howto on the wiki.

Thank you for your reply. KDE3 I like but KDE4 no thanks. Installing Nvidia big problem. The older Salix 13.1.2 with the older kernel 2.6.33.4 works but do not have repository support. I like the low resources of Salix as so many distros are becoming blotted. Wanted Network manager instead of Wicd for wireless internet.

What do you mean it doesn't have repository support?

I was wrong, the older version Salix LXDE 13.1.2 continues to have repository support/updates. Updates loaded without errors tonight. I have experienced many other distros having update errors as they get older. So I assumed wrong regarding Salix. I apologize. I consider Salix better than most distros overall. Salix works with my non-grub boot manager BootitNG (multi booting/imaging backup/restoring/partitioning needs) by option putting Lilo in root partition instead of MBR feature and is not blotted and not heavy on resources. It is a KISS, simple to use, nice selection of applications, and easy to add most available programs/codecs. Suggestions: (Would like K9copy, Mozplugger, for repository and a simplified Porteus installer similar to PClinuxOS or WattOS).
