Slackel current KDE 4.8.1 images are released

Slackel current KDE 4.8.1 edition released. It is a collection of four KDE iso images, including 32-bit and 64-bit installation images and live images.

Slackel current KDE 4.8.1 includes the latest current tree of slackware and latest KDE 4.8.1. Other included programs are: The firefox 11.0 web browser, KMail and Ktorrent, Akregator, Kopete and more. Wicd is used for setting up your wired or wireless networking connections.

In the multimedia section there is Bangarang 2.1, Clementine 1.0.1 and of course K3b 2.0.2 , the best optical disc burning application for Linux systems. The Salix codecs installer application can be used, to quickly and easily install patent encumbered codecs to your system.

A wide variety of office applications are included as Calligra, the new standard KDE office suite. Calligra Words, Calligra Stage, Calligra Tables are the main office applications. There are are many more included like KOrganizer, KAddressBook and the Okular document viewer.
In the graphics section, there is Krita, Karbon, Gwenview, KColorChooser and KSnapshot.

The graphical Salix system tools are present too and of cource slapt-get/Gslapt and Sourcery.

The Slackel live DVD images includes the LiveKernel 3.2.13 (32 and 64 bit) and built using SaLT (Salix Live Technology).

These installation and live images includes only support for the english and greek language in KDE. Support for additional languages can be added by the user by installing the respective language packages for KDE and Calligra from slackel repositories using slapt-get/gslapt.

(The root password for the live CD is “live”. Standard user login is “one” with no password)

New KDE versions come up real fast.
To update Slackel KDE 4.8.1 to Slackel KDE 4.8.2 change in /etc/slapt-get/slapt-getrc ( where it says kde-4.8.1 to kde-4.8.2)

Thanks for sharing, djemos. I will definitely take a look at the 4.8.2 build. I'm perfectly satisfied with SalixOS but I'm always curious when people do new distros and try interesting things with Slackware

Caitlyn, Slackel and Salix have different goals.
Slackel uses slackware's "current" branch and the latest KDE desktop. So with slackel i can test and prepare new things which later will be part of salix when slackware stable will be released and i will build salix kde edition installation and livedvd's.

Since kde 4.5.5 to 4.8.2 a lot of things have changed in kde.
Also it is an opportunity for anyone want to have slackware current + latest kde installed. I use it for everyday work, this is my main system and it is stable, i have no problems.
