I think it would be cool to have Gnome, XFCE and KDE on the install CD and let the user chose which DE he wants to use.
Basic libs like gtk+ and Qt should always be installed.

I would keep your base system as lean as possible. No libs installed except those needed by the desktop environment you pick by default.

Hum. I think we could use 2 types of ISO :
- One with XFCE by default and default applications (like the current Zenwalk) with size as small as possible.
- One with Gnome+KDE+XFCE+Openbox & others, with default applications for each DE, and a question about the environnement at the installation with preview images. This ISO could take a huge place (to burn on a DVD).

Hence, people who discover Linux could use the first ISO, because the DE is not very important for newcomers. The big ISO (DVD) could be of any use for people who know that wants another DE or ahve many, or simply people who want to test, or else people who do not have a speedy connection at home (and download the ISO in a cyber or friend's home for example).

What do you think ?

i think the basic installation cd should come with the simplest DE (perhaps just a wm) - so the first thing a user should do is to choose and to install his or her preferred DE.

Each DE then should have its own alcoholix theme, required libs and preferred applications so that the user should not need to customise much. for example, if the user decided to install GNOME, alcoholix GNOME should be installed. if the user decided to install xfce, then alcoholix xfce should be installed but with somewhat different applications (as xfce does not need every gnome applications). The same goes with kde and lxde.

As I already said : If we let the choice, we must have them on the CD/DVD.
there could exist a CD with no choice and a default DE (XFCE).
