updating tor, keeping old configuration

I use Tor for internet banking and such. It comes bundled with a browser that's basically Firefox. To update (or install) Tor, you just unpack the download and run some file inside the directory, that is, it's entirely self-contained.

Even though I hardly use it, I like to tweak it a bit, with Pentadactyl and probably Adblock.I'm not sure if these go in the "profile".

My question is, where does Firefox keep such customisations? That way, I could just copy a directory or two rather than setting everything up each time I update. It's presumably important to do every update, too, for security reasons.

I'm pretty sure this question's come up on this forum, but I couldn't find the answer here or on Mozilla'a own site - the information must be out there, but it is swamped by vaguely related stuff.

That would be the firefox profile, stored in ~/.mozilla/firefox/random_string_here.

But in this case, I don't think it is, because Tor's files are independent of any existing browser. For instance, I can have Pentadactyl in Firefox and not in Tor - this is what happens when I update. So maybe the answer is specific to Tor ...

EDIT

Got it by searching for files of the same name as in the normal Firefox profile. In the case of Tor, the directory is Tor/Data/profile. Tor/Data has a directory called "plugins" too.

Thanks Gapan!

I don't know about tor, but I'm guessing that you need to copy (or symlink? )the firefox profile, where tor keeps its firefox profile.

Hmm, why are you using Tor for online banking? Do you want to hide from your bank?

No, just anyone listening in in between. In fact I only bother with it when I'm using wireless internet. But does this mean I have misunderstood the use of Tor, and it is only needed for accessing illegal pornography, instructions for building bombs, and so on? :o

You have to use HTTPS so that nobody can listen in between. Tor sends your data on a roundtrip through a number of foreign computers, so that the other end cannot tell who actually is accessing their site.

EDIT: fixed a bad sentence :D
