Maybe missing dependencies?

I can't remember how verbose Sourcery is compared to slapt-src, but maybe try the latter and see if it's more informative?

next time I need to install something. or can I try to use slapt-src to reinstall? I hate to screw up something that's already working now.

I'd leave it alone if it's working ok. Whatever caused the errors before must have got fixed by your hand install, so reinstalling might not be very informative anyway.
