Vice 2.3 Commodore emulator with ethernet enabled

Postby Tim CowChip » 24. Apr 2012, 22:04

I submitted a package upgrade ticket to the Sourceforge tracker site. It was created with src2pkg.
https://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/salix/ticket/767
I also added a blog entry to CommodoreServer.com

Sorry, but please don't submit package uprades created using src2pkg. That offers little control and is not reproducible. Once a SLKBUILD or SlackBuild is created a upgrade is usually just a change of the version + build. You can grab the source files for vice from here: http://salix.enialis.net/i486/13.37/source/games/vice/
Apart from that no package upgrades are accepted for current except for very few important exceptions to guarantee that the release stays stable. You're welcome though to contribute once we have a current tree.

This are the guidelines and they've proven to work. Although it might seem different, we really do appreciate your work and any contributions. I guess you could talk with gapan if you want to maintain that package as he is currently doing that job.

You can also give our wiki a reading which contains various information on packaging.

Ok Shador, I will try to build a package using conventional means even though it might take years and cost millions of lives (just kidding).
I have a 64 bit system so I will try to build using this source.

I tried, but was unable to download your script from here

Finally was able to get the script.
Code: Select all
chris[Vice2.3]$ ./slkbuild-postgen -sug -con -64 SLKBUILD
Automatically setting arch to x86_64
'''Homepage:'''
http://www.viceteam.org/

'''Package:'''
/vice-2.3-x86_64-1gv.md5
/vice-2.3-x86_64-1gv.txz
/vice-2.3-x86_64-1gv.dep
/vice-2.3-x86_64-1gv.src
/vice-2.3-x86_64-1gv.sug
/vice-2.3-x86_64-1gv.con

'''Log:'''
/build-vice-2.3-x86_64-1gv.log

not sure what to do with this though.

This script just creates the post for a package submission. So you don't have to copy'n paste all the links yourself and write everything again.
You don't need to use that tool either. It's just for convenience.

Usually it shouldn't matter. If there is more than one arch supported, the script should work automagically on each of them.

I have asked gapan if he would like me to submit a slkbuilt package for approval.

Vice has been updated to version 2.4. When Slackware and ultimately Salix are upgraded to a new release then I will submit whatever version of the package exists at the time. In the meantime I will maintain the latest release of Vice for Salix here: http://people.salixos.org/timcowchip/vice/
