Salix Live beta1

Post by JRD »

After two alphas, here is the first beta of SalixLive:
http://enialis.net/~jrd/salix/salixlive ... -beta1.iso
http://enialis.net/~jrd/salix/salixlive ... a1.iso.md5

Included features:
  • autologin
  • salixlive default hostname
  • salixos.org default domain name
  • generic salixlive created keys directly in /etc/ssh
  • a simple script to build the LiveISO
  • funionfs for building modules
  • noload cheatcode to disable some modules
  • Firefox as default browser
  • Splashy on initrd
  • grub2 (languages, keyboard)
Corrected bugs:
  • salixliveSLAX in ISO name must be corrected to salixlive
  • /dev/initctl problem
  • /etc/profile.d/alias.sh
  • /usr/share/locale/locale.alias on the initrd
  • keyboardsetup reference to delete
  • 10-keymap.fdi is missing
Known bugs:
  • grub2 boot menu to choose between full, only basic, or only core
  • grub2 command line to include "changes=" cheatcode
  • Booting from USB KO ?
  • Splashy segfault when relogin ?
Thanks to Shador for the great grub2 boot menu.
Akuna's installer is on the way for the beta2 maybe ^_^.

Lol, :D

Let us first play with beta1 & fully enjoy it before working on beta2.
In any case what would be the point of beta2 without the livetools. ;)

One bug found: http://www.salixos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1256#p1256

Also, when booting from a physical CD-ROM (not in VirtualBox), the boot menu local chars are unreadable & replaced by ????

EDIT: fixed-> http://www.salixos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1268#p1268

Tried the image written to an USB stick with UNetbootin. Booting results in
Fatal error occured - salixlive data not found.
You are maybe using an unsupported boot device (e.g. SCSI or old PCMCIA).
(...)
Why? The directory is also on the stick ...

This is the oppinion of the author, it does not force you to share and is signed automatically.
You are free to keep them all errors for your own. Linux is the best game I ever played.

Another thing... the Livecd doesn't mount ext4 partitions because fstab sees them as ext3

Good question. I don't have the answer and need to investigate.

About ext4 partitions, I also need to investigate on this.

Maybe you can add a target version or project in SF bugzilla, Akuna ?

Regarding ext4 detection, it probably depends on the tools the live-scripts are depending on to detect filesystems.

At the moment both fdisk & parted are seeing ext4 as ext3. While lshal sees ext4 correctly.
In fact because of this I am planning to switch to lshal for the installer filesys detection instead of parted
