I have made the slackbuild for libfm for new pcmanfm version and i had build the pcmanfm-0.9.7.
And i did it , trying to resolve the "open as root" problem.
So i tried to reinstall gvfs and i could not b/c of deps bluez-libs
So i recompiled the gvfs-1.0.3-i486-1gv and in deps, the depfinder added bluez and not bluez-libs
which are depricated and not included in slackware-13.1.
So deps file of gvfs have to be corrected.

As of pcmanfm 0.5.2 version is working in salix-13.0 and is broken in salix-13.1
New version cannot compiled in salix-13.0 and is also broken in salix-13.1
Maybe it is a dbus problem or developers bag.

And I don't consider the removal of that option a problem. Actually, I think such an option to be dangerous and I might continue using my patch even if it is fixed in future versions.

I don't expect the new pcmanfm to be ready yet, it has been rewritten from scratch, so it will take a while to get there.

I agree to a point, particularly for newbies. OTOH, there are times when you really do need root mode in a file manager. What is the difference between including that option and opening a terminal, typing su - (or sudo -s if you have sudo setup), and typing pcmanfm & ? IMHO, none. SalixOS isn't a newbie-centric distro like Ubuntu, or so I keep reading in the mailing list and on the forum. There is no need to be the root nanny.

That's the way I'm doing it and it's ok for me

I've rebuild it for x86_64 and indeed it seems to work well. It's fast as usual and if the seldom crashes of the 0.5 series are fixed for me this may bring me back from Openbox/KDE to some pure Openbox setup

The difference is that when you go the su/launch from terminal route, is like you're stating "I know what I'm doing". That's not the case when you're selecting a menu option and entering a password. Accessing a root file manager window can be just as easily done, by su/launch file manager and a terminal can be launched quickly from the file manager with a right click anyway. Anyone that should require such functionality should know how to get it without having to resort to a menu option. Anyone that needs that menu option to access that functionality, should not be using it anyway.

And although we're not in any way a newbie-centric distro, we do get newbies coming our way.
