Re: Xfce Start Menu
Look in /usr/share/applications where you will find the desktop configuration files. You can open these with mousepad and edit the name. The method by which the menu is created is the same as in Gnome, which is documented at http://library.gnome.org/admin/system-admin-guide/stable/menustructure-1.ht...

Can't print
I have a HP Deskjet 5940. This has been set up using hp-setup, using a 5900-series driver, but I can't actually print. If I try to print from gedit, xfprint pops up and only offers the option of printing to a file in postscript format. If I try to print from OpenOffice, it offers "generic print...

Re: units
Well I've googled, and I've visited the Slackware site (where the packages section is down), and I'm none the wiser. So where do I get a txz package of units?

eth0 problem
Just when I was about to make Salix my working distro, this happens! When I start the computer, I sometimes find I have no internet. Running ifconfig, the output reports eth0 as in use but gives no addresses. Pinging the router gives 'network unavailable'. The only solution seems to be rebooting. Th...

Re: units
Can anyone who has installed units solve this problem? It's compiled, but won't install
make: *** No rule to make target `install'. Stop.
There's certainly masses of stuff in the make file about installation.

Distro of the year poll
Linux questions has started the annual members choice polls and I've got Jeremy to include Salix in the Desktop Distribution class. So, off you all go to vote for it! We won't beat Ubuntu, but we can try. :D http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/2010-linuxquestions-org-members-choice-awards-93/des...

Re: What do you have Salix installed on
Xfce version on a home-built desktop: ADM Sempron 2600, SiS on-motherboard video, 1GB memory. That's the big, fast one I haven't tried it on my IBM X31 yet.

Re: Automounting usb memory in Xfce.
I've removed the fstab entry, inserted the memory, and run dmesg. Automounting usb memory in Xfce. SOLVED
I've set the Removable Drives and Media options in Xfce to mount storage on plug-in, but it simply ignores a usb memory stick. Is that a bug or a feature? I've altered fstab to mount /dev/sdb on /media/usb, so I can mount by hand, but it does seem more like 2001 than 2011. PS All of a sudden, the pr...
