Re: Salix KDE 14.1beta1

Hi Tim, I will put something together for the wiki over the next week or so, time permitting. I am thinking that a "proscribed testing schedule" will just put people off - and it appears that there aren't that many to begin with - so I will concentrate on simple steps any user can take to ...

Re: Salix KDE 14.1beta1

Hi, I am not the most organised person in the world, so I like working to a plan. I searched the Salix web-site for a plan/guidelines/article/note on what you want beta-testers to accomplish for each release, but I found nothing. I guess the assumption is that someone who is prepared to beta test kn...

Re: Salix Xfce 14.1RC1

OK, I've been testing out the 64bit RC by doing the following: 1 Compiling software outside of the slackbuild system (i.e configure, make, make install) 2. Installing multilib (via djemos script) 3. Removing multilib (via a third party script) 4 Repeating 2 and 3 via various methods including manual...

Re: Salix Xfce 14.1RC1

I installed RC1 on an iMac with non-efi boot option (it was running Slackware64 14.0) Install was flawless. My preferred set of software tools is installed. My email is up an running. In short, excellent RC, and I plan on using it as my desktop for the foreseeable future. Thank you all for your effo...

Re: Salix Xfce 14.1RC1

Hi, Tried out the 64bit iso as follows: Burned the iso to a dvd. Booted my iMac with the option (alt) key held down. Selected EFI boot from the three choices (Windows, Windows and EFI :-) ) Got the following message: "Welcome to Grub Out of Range Pointer 0x8010202020202020 Aborted. Press any k...

Shane.

PS Samsungs Magician software adds a nice GUI to stuff that is generally available from your OS. Might be worth a look, if only for interests sake.

Re: Salix sur second disque dur?

Hi mimosa, Yes, you would see the lilo menu if you left the menu on (as per the default), but simply tell lilo to boot into the default immediately and the effect is as if there is a slightly longer boot sequence. I use this method on a laptop with 7 partitions on it - the first is nothing more than...

Re: Salix sur second disque dur?

Hi, I am using google translate, as I do not speak French, but I think I understand your question. On /dev/sda1 you have your default Salix/linux setup On /dev/sdb1 you have your second Salix/linux setup To boot either, add the following paragraph to the bottom of your /etc/lilo.conf on /dev/sda1 ot...

Re: Salix KDE 14.0RC1

Hi djemos,
Agreed. After memtest86 did 4 passess it reported one error, so that's enough for me. Replacement ram has been ordered. HDD will be checked after ram replaced.

Cheers,
Shane.
