I found out that the problem truly is in the kernel: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/752165 I'll just have to wait till this bug is worked out. It only affects Intel's graphics (as far as I know). Temporary solution: setpci -s 00:02.0 F4.B=00 Can someone tell me how to run this ...

So the screen turns off right after the lilo boot screen? Or after bootup when X starts? I think when X starts, because I can see those letters maybe 15-20 seconds after the LiLo boot screen! Greetings forum! So, I have a huge problem: I just finished installing Salix OS on my brand new laptop. I didn't encounter any problems during the installation, but after rebooting, screen brightness is set to 0! I tried with Fn keys but they didn't help... I mean I could see something is happening ...

One way or another you're going to need an internet connection for this. If you can't use your computer then you could use the LiveCD to create the b43-firmware package on another computer then transport it (maybe on a USB stick) to your computer.
